Kristan Toczko is a professional harpist, graphic designer, and photographer based in Ontario, Canada. She is a first place winner of the prestigious OSM Standard Life Competition, and was named a CBC Radio-Canada Young Artist featured as a soloist in national broadcast. Kristan has won numerous international competitions and has performed in acclaimed venues including Carnegie Hall. As an active performer, she has been a part of multiple chamber music festivals, has been a featured soloist with the Vancouver Symphony, and has presented several solo recitals at the Rio Harp Festival in Brazil. Kristan has attended summer programs including the Aspen Music Festival, Orchestra of the Americas, Lucerne Festival Academy, and the Banff Centre. She has performed with several orchestras across Canada and internationally including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Jalisco Philharmonia, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Beijing Symphony. A founding member of “Duo Novus”, Kristan’s harp duet has commissioned numerous new works and has toured internationally. Kristan is uniquely equipped to work in the design field with musicians as she is a musician herself.
With an eye for design, Kristan has been working as a graphic designer since 2001, and officially formed Kristan Toczko Designs as a sole proprietorship in 2020. Among digital art, Kristan also does ink calligraphy and has since completed four weddings and numerous other commission artwork. In 2013, Kristan started working with Canadian record label Leaf Music. She has designed albums and various digital items for various clients inluding the principal cellist of the LA Philharmonic Robert deMaine, Infusion Baroque, Luminous Voices, and composers Alice Ping Yee Ho and Jaap Nico Hamburger with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal. Her graphic design work has included over 30 albums for digital and printed release, logo creation, posters, social media squares, and brochures. Kristan is knowledgeable in the use of design software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom.
Kristan has worked as a photographer since 2010, working primarily with musicians. Photography clients include soprano Julie Nesrallah, the Gryphon Trio, and violinist Mark Fewer. Kristan shoots using a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.
Kristan holds degrees in Harp Performance from Yale University (M.M.) and McGill University (B.Mus. & G.D.P.P.).
